The PBD Trailpack Pockets
So... what makes you special? Everyone has something that they hold dear to them. Something that over time signifies you and how you add to the world around you. Backpacks are the same and in my opinion, the PBD Trailpacks are special because of their side pockets. I mean just check them out. They're awesome !!!!
I am a hiker and a thinker. While I hike, my mind tends to wonders all over the place. Once I owed a really nice red Osprey 28L pack that I was in love with it, well....kind of..... I was in love with it when I saw it online and I loved it in REI the 3 or 4 times I went there to visit it. Now it was a $145 pack and I really had to save my pennies to justify purchasing this little guy. Boy, I was so excited the day I bought him and took him home. The guy actually rode in the passenger seat and I had such high expectation of my next hike.
Then.... disappointment and frustration came. I loaded my little red friend up for a 20 mile hike on the AZT. Just a little supplies, mainly water and lunch / rain jacket and off we went. Quickly I noticed something that I never noticed before. The side water pockets.... they SUCKED... I mean there was no possible way in the world a normal jointed person could reach into them without stopping and taking the pack off. Coming from a ZPACKS Nero, this was so unacceptable. I am a water bottle hiker and this should not be..... I quickly realized my little red friend had a major design flaw, well, for me at least. It was designed as a bladder pack and the side pockets were just simply a meshy after thought. Looking back now, I think at this moment, PBD Ultralight was born.
I searched and searched, buying and returning many packs, in a quest of a better side water bottle pocket. I just wanted something easy to reach while hiking. As I hiker, my pack was much like my desk at the office. I needed all my stuff within easy reach for use. In my quest I purchased a 28 liter Granite Gear pack that once again held promise. But no..... pockets were just too tight. Then.... out of frustration I took that pack to a seamstress and just asked. Can you make these bigger and maybe add another mesh pocket on top of the pockets? She said, sure. $80.... I said. Ok deal. The rest is history.
I love our side pockets and I think you will too. Check out the photos and let me know if you have any questions or comments.
